Riley Street - Santa Rosa Drawing Class

We've been taking a break, along with most of the other kids, not having classes most of July - but are getting ready to start again in August! I'm excited to see some of the regulars come back with their vacation stories and experiences - looking forward to seeing some new faces too.
There's "Try Me" $10 1st Time Student discount price, which I think is great... It's an hour and a half workshop class and you can drop in anytime. I prorate the fee's if you want to take advantage of package deal - $70 for 4 classes - and would apply any drop in payment to that if you want your child to continue participating in the fun!
I'll be posting more about what we did this year, but wanted to get the new Fall Class info up first!
E-mail me at bwatts@sonic.net if you want more information about the classes or other locations I teach. I also travel for private lessons. Call me.. dedicated.. I love teaching art.

The Sebastopol Art Class!
Here's some drawings that the boys in Sebastopol are doing. They're 7-12 years old and some awesome artists.
Here's a sample of the traditional "draw your shoes" exercise. The object was to draw them without looking at the paper. (Drawing with their eyes)....
We were outside so there was some good texture on the ground and the sun gave some great shadows.
Dalton drew the sandals below, he really got the perspective well. (Birds eye view).

Here's portrait Cosmo worked on, he's practicing his proportions and shading.... this was from his imagination. Good work!

The next 2 are still life's we did the same day as a warm up exercise. It was more complicated than usual, with lots of leaves, twigs and little buds - I asked them to look at their paper only when they were not drawing. Telling them to outline it or "trace it with their eye's" made it easier to get started. They all did a great job on this one.
I'm not sure who did this one, I like it as an example.
Hey, you have GOT to sign your work!

This one's Jesse's. He's turning 10.
I asked him to put it ON something, to give it a horizon line - like the table top. He wanted to give the idea of perspective his way, so drew a road. I have to admit, it works! Now, where's the light source?
Ethan drew the following lately, when he was going to go fishing. I like the attention to detail and the mixed media - pen, graphite and soft pastel pencil. Notice the piece of land, with the water in front AND behind it, making it look really 3D!

Then, there's the oil pastel landscapes, which started as an experiment and has been growing on the kids....
and then Lucas - 12, who's become very prolific lately.
More to come!

The Kids Classes First Posting!

Hi All!
After 2-3 years of holding children's art classes here in beautiful Sonoma County, California, I've finally gotten some of our regulars artwork rendered to show everyone! I'm an art teacher, not a digital master of pictures, so realize the colors, contrast, and all that good stuff, isn't perfect, but gives everyone a good idea how impressive the kids are at what they're doing. One of the classes is a group of boys, go figure... The other is a mixed bag, from a dinosaur drawing 5 year old to a 12 year old preparing her portfolio so she can enter the design college of her choice.
